The CISD Board of Trustees approved the following resolutions and action items during the Jan 22 meeting:
The Board approved Lea Park & Play, Inc. for the replacement of playground equipment and shade structures at ten elementary schools at a price per campus of $302,827 per campus or $3,028,270 plus 3 % for payment and performance bonding for a total of $3,119,118 with construction to begin in April and May of 2024 at 9 of the 10 campuses, with Valley Ranch Elementary’s playground to be part of its renovation in summer of 2025 (Canyon Ranch, which opened in 2019, is not getting a new playground);
Trustees approved Spectrum Resource Roofing for the roof replacement at Pinkerton Elementary for a cost of $989,999 plus 3 % for payment and performance bonding for a total of $1,019,699 with all roof work to take place in the summer of 2024 with no impact on instruction;
Trustees approved a resolution that does not permit a district campus to employ or accept as a volunteer a chaplain to provide support, services and programs for students at this time (Senate Bill 763, passed by the 88th Texas Legislature, requires each school board to take a record vote between Sept. 1, 2023, and March 1, 2024, on whether to adopt a policy authorizing a campus of the district to employ or accept as a volunteer a chaplain under Education Code Chapter 23);
Trustees approved TEA Staff Development Waivers for 2024-2025 and 2025-2026;
The Board the following (LOCAL) Board Policy revisions:
Trustees approved the adoption of an Election Order calling a School Board Trustee General Election on May 4, 2024;
The Board approved the Financial Report for December 2023; and
Trustees approved the Budget Amendments for January 2024.
Student Leader Takeover for Board Awards
There was a “student takeover” during Board Awards, and student leaders from CHS, CMS East, CMS North and CMS West, and Wilson Elementary, Lakeside Elementary, Valley Ranch Elementary and Richard J. Lee Elementary recognized CISD Trustees as part of Board Appreciation Month:
CHS 10th grader Pranav Krishnan who served as the kid superintendent and emcee;
CMS North 7th grader, Emiliano Noyola shared about Board Appreciation Month in English and Spanish;
CMS East Student Council President and 8th Grader Claire McSpadden, who recognized Board President David Caviness;
CMS North Student Council President 8th Grader Anaya Dike, who recognized Board Vice President Anthony HIll;
CMS Wst Student Council President 7th Grader Ishan Mittal, who recognized Board Secretary Nichole Bentley;
Wilson Elementary Student Council President 5th Grader Arjun Wagle, who recognized Trustee Leigh Walker;
Lakeside Elementary Student Council President 5th Grader Andrew Kinney, who recognized Trustee Manish Sethi;
Valley Ranch Elementary Student Leader 5th Grader Rishi Gompa, who recognized Trustee Ranna Raval; and
Richard J. Lee Student LEEdership Council President 5th Grader Ruth Hakani; who recognized Trustee Jobby Mathew.
