📊 Understanding the Impact of Attendance on School Funding 🏫💵 Daily attendance is crucial for state funding as it directly influences a school district's success factors, including school climate, teacher effectiveness, instructional quality, and student achievement. In Texas, schools are funded based on student attendance, with students counted present if they're in class during attendance times: - 10 a.m. for Elementary - 10:15 a.m. for Middle School - 10:45 a.m. for High School For each student present, Coppell ISD receives approximately $40 per day. Last year, our average attendance rate was 95.5%, and our goal for the 2024-25 school year is 97% district-wide. Your child's daily attendance helps secure essential resources for our schools. In a heartwarming celebration of unity and inclusion, CISD middle and high school students in the Transitional Pathways, Structured Learning, and Active Learning programs came together for an exciting athletic event. Organized by Kristen Yarborough, Tosha Salerno, and Taylor Mounce, with support from Coppell Special Olympics representatives, these students teamed up with their peers for a friendly bocce ball competition they've been practicing for all year. As part of the CISD Unified Sports initiative, the event provides an opportunity for students to compete alongside their peers, promoting inclusion and fostering a sense of belonging. Coppell ISD's dedication to Unified Sports has earned the district recognition as a Unified Champion School, strengthening bonds both in the classroom and on the field. With basketball next on the schedule for the spring, this is just one of the many ways the district continues to champion unity through sports.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls cross country teams put their endurance to the test at the District 5-6A Championship held Oct. 11 at North Lakes Park in Denton. The Varsity Girls team — composed of Rachel Arrington, Maya Easterwood, Avery Fishman, Lucy Martinson, Annie Reeder, Mallory Sherrer and Bess Williams — tied for 3rd overall, narrowly missing out on qualifying for Regionals after a tiebreaker. Despite the tough outcome, the girls delivered their best performance of the season, leaving it all on the course. Maya Easterwood finished 2nd overall with an impressive time of 16:52, the 3rd fastest in Texas and a top 15 time in the country. She will aim for state qualification at the Regional Meet. On the Varsity Boys side, the team of Jayden Benjamin, Rohit Kalpathy, Diego Morales, Grant O'Neal, Srivanth Rudrangi, Ansh Singhal and Pranav Vegiraju placed 3rd overall, securing their spot at Regionals. Competing in one of the state's toughest districts, this top 3 finish is a great accomplishment for the boys. Pranav Vegiraju finished 3rd overall with an impressive 15:05. The JV Girls finished 5th, while the JV Boys raced to 2nd place. A total of 38 runners celebrated personal bests, showing how our cross country runners went the extra mile.

Coppell High School Ninth Grade Campus Principal Dr. Greg Axelson initiated a friendly takeover of CHS9 Teacher Reyna Conger's eighth-period Spanish II class to teach a lesson in verb conjugation. The takeover was the first of two for two CHS9 teachers after several entered in a drawing to have Dr. Axelson teach one of their classes. "Mid-October is when the year starts to settle in, and teachers may be feeling tired," Dr. Axelson said. "I thought this would be a fun way to lend some support to our teachers and also engage with the kids" While the freshman learned about common "boot verbs" and some of the tricker conjugations, Conger was able to spend the period grading recent projects outside the classroom. Dr. Axelson plans to teach a biology lesson sometime in the next few days and potentially hold another drawing later in the year.

The CHS9 Cowboy Theatre Company will bring the spooky tale of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to life from Oct. 24-26, at the CHS9 Auditorium. This play, adapted by Kathryn Schultz Miller from Washington Irving’s classic story, features the clumsy schoolteacher Ichabod Crane, the charming Katrina Van Tassel, and the menacing Brom Bones, all set against the backdrop of eerie storytelling and the chilling presence of the Headless Horseman. New Tech High @ Coppell has been recognized with the prestigious Platinum Level distinction on the AP Honor Roll — the highest level available — a testament to its unwavering commitment to academic rigor and student success. October is National Dyslexia Awareness Month. CISD will raise awareness on each campus with a variety of events and activities. On Oct. 10, all CISD students and staff are encouraged to "Light It RED for Dyslexia" by wearing red to school. Learn more about CISD Intervention Services/Dyslexia HERE. October is National Bullying Prevention Month. STOMP Out Bullying, the leading national anti-bullying and cyberbullying organization for kids and teens, created the World Day of Bullying Prevention, which is Monday, Oct. 7. CISD is participating this year by asking staff, students and the community to #BeKind #BlueUp on #BlueShirtDay on Monday, Oct. 7, by wearing blue that day.
