Turning the page on his love of reading, Canyon Ranch Elementary Fourth Grade student Abhijith Raghavan has been selected to present the 2024 Bluebonnet Award to the winning author at the 2024 Texas Library Association Conference. CRE Librarian Carolyn Davis nominated Raghavan for this honor, and his selection marks a significant chapter in the school's history. The Texas Bluebonnet Award is one of the most prestigious children’s choice literary awards in the United States. Each year, 20 books are chosen for the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List. Schools and libraries around the state participate in the program, encouraging students to read a minimum of five books from the list. In January, students vote for their favorite title. The author of the book receiving the most votes wins the Texas Bluebonnet Award, which Raghavan will present at the TLA Conference in San Antonio in April.
🏃♂️ Meet Michael Higgins, a Coppell man with a passion for running that took him to the ends of the Earth! Instead of shying away from ice and snow like most North Texans, Michael embraced it by running a marathon on a glacier at the bottom of the world. His love for running started in high school, and he sees it as a way to disconnect from the world's chaos. While he's no stranger to marathons, this time he took it to the extreme by conquering the Antarctic Ice Marathon, located a staggering 600 miles from the South Pole. 🏅❄️

🌟📚 Shoutout to our amazing teachers and mentors at CISD! 📚🌟
Experienced teachers do more than just teach their students — they also help coach new teachers. Through CISD's Beginning Educators And Mentors (BEAM) program, veteran educators help new teachers find their footing and become exceptional in the profession by serving as mentors, guiding their newer colleagues to “nail the landing” for teaching success.
The BEAM program helps CISD balance its tradition of teaching excellence by bolstering new teacher recruitment and retention, thus ensuring a stronger and more dedicated teaching workforce within the district.
Meet Caitlan Paul, a BEAM mentee in her second year of teaching Pre-Kindergarten at Denton Creek Elementary. She had Nikki White as her mentor last year and fellow Pre-K teacher Kendall Hogan as her mentor this year, enriching her journey in her professional development. Paul values the guidance and advice she has received, recognizing that collaboration and seeking insights from her mentors have been instrumental in her teaching practices.
Drawing from her extensive 11 years of teaching experience across different districts, Hogan felt compelled to join the BEAM program to fill a void she experienced early on in her career. Hogan recognizes the value of mentorship and relishes the opportunity to provide Paul with insights, strategies, and a compassionate ear.
Let's celebrate these dedicated educators and the invaluable impact they have on our students and future generations. 🙌💡 #TeachingExcellence #CISDTeachers #EducationMatters #CISDMissionPossible

Celebrating White Cane Day Oct. 15 — My name is Daniel Jimenez. I am a sophomore at Coppell High School, and I was born with albinism, a visual impairment. This Sunday, Oct. 15, we celebrate White Cane Day, a day to commemorate the independence of people with visual impairments. The white cane was a device made for blind people for mobility purposes, to help blind people with movement and environmental awareness. Over time, as more people started using the white cane, White Cane Day was established by Lyndon B. Johnson. So, this Sunday, I am taking the day to celebrate White Cane Day. Living with a visual impairment has been difficult, and I’ve had my trials and struggles over the years, but being here in Coppell ISD has helped me learn and experience how to thrive and achieve my goals even with a visual impairment. If you’re wondering how you can help create a safer space for visually impaired individuals, here is a good tip. If you see a person with a cane, especially on the sidewalk, giving them a little more space can make it easier for them to check their surroundings. #CISDStudentMade by Daniel Jimenez #CISDMissionPossible
Learners taking the lead — Today, at Lakeside (5th Grade), Richard J. Lee, Mockingbird, Valley Ranch, and Wilson (a mix of both learner-led and parent-teacher conferences) Elementary Schools, learners took the reins in learner-led parent-teacher conferences. Students shared their academic accomplishments and progress, as well as the areas in which they want to grow. By leading the way, these students, along with teachers and parents, are making our CISD mission of creating profound learning experiences for every child possible. #CISDMissionPossible

Let's talk about something crucial today – the impact of loneliness and depression on our children and youth.
Loneliness and depression can lead young ones to withdraw from their peers and, in extreme cases, result in self-harm or harm to others. It's a sobering reality we can't ignore.
But here's the good news – #StartWithHelloWeek is making a real difference!
This incredible initiative is teaching students to be more inclusive and connected to one another. It's all about fostering empathy, understanding, and support within our schools and communities.
We can be a part of this culture change! Let's spread the word, raise awareness, and get involved in making our schools and neighborhoods more welcoming and compassionate places for our kids.
Visit www.sandyhookpromise.org/our-programs/start-with-hello to learn more and take action.
Together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of our children and youth. Let's #StartWithHello and be the change we wish to see in the world!

Ever wondered how to break the ice and connect with someone new? It's as simple as saying, "Hello!" 🙌
The secret to meaningful connections lies in asking questions and truly listening. 🤔💬 Here's a little guide to get you started:
1: Start With Hello: A warm greeting goes a long way. Say hi and offer a friendly smile. 😊
2: Ask Questions: Dive into conversation by asking open-ended questions. 🤗 Try something like, "What's your favorite movie?" or "What type of music do you like?" 🎥🎶
3: Go Deeper: To really get to know someone, ask "Why?" This not only shows your interest but opens the door to deeper discussions. 🤔🌟
4: Listen Actively: While they're sharing their thoughts, listen attentively. Make eye contact and nod to show you're engaged. 🙇♂️🙇♀️
5: Respond Thoughtfully: Respond to what they say, sharing your own thoughts and experiences. It's a two-way street! 🤝🗨️
Remember, every connection starts with a simple "Hello!" 💫 So, whether you're meeting someone new or deepening your bond with an old friend, start the conversation and watch the magic happen. 🌟✨
