Student success is tied to regular attendance. When students are absent, they miss opportunities to learn and develop skills to become good citizens. Coppell ISD encourages students to attend school every day and be on time.

TEXAS STATE LAW
Texas State law requires students (when healthy) attend school each day that instruction is provided. A parent/guardian commits an offense of thwarting compulsory attendance under Texas Education Code Sec. 25.093. Unexcused absences on 10 or more days or part of the days is a Class C misdemeanor.

TEXAS EDUCATION CODE SEC 25.092
Minimum Attendance for Class Credit or Final Grade. (a) Except as provided by this section, a student in any grade level from kindergarten through grade 12 may not be given credit or a final grade for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered.

FUNDED BASED ON ATTENDANCE
Schools in Texas are funded based on student attendance, not enrollment. State withholds funding to Coppell ISD for each day the student is absent from school. Click here to learn more about school district budget and funding.

Improving attendance by 1% would increase CISD's funding by approximately $1 million dollars

Coppell ISD Attendance Rates:

  • 2018: 96.7%

  • 2019: 96.7%

  • 2020: 96.7%

  • 2021: remote

  • 2022: 95.4%

  • 2023: 95.6%


  • CISD Goal: 97%

NOTE: With 1.3% drop in the attendance rate from 2020 to 2022, state funding reduced nearly $1 million.

How to Report an Absence:

Please be aware that phone calls are not accepted as documentation for absences. Parents are welcome to give a courtesy call to the attendance clerk to report an absence, but a note will be required upon the student’s return to school.
