Advanced Placement (AP)

    The Advanced Placement (AP) program was created by college board in 1955 to provide students with a college-level work in high school. There are currently 32 Advanced Placement Exams across 19 subjects offered during May of each year. Students may earn college credit for their AP exam scores.

    • Get a head start on college-level work.

    • Improve your writing skills and sharpen your problem-solving techniques.

    • Develop the study habits necessary for tackling rigorous course work.

    • Study subjects in greater depth and detail.

  • Coppell ISD and College Board are committed to the principle that all students deserve an opportunity to participate in rigorous and academically challenging courses and programs. All students who are willing to accept the challenge of a rigorous academic curriculum should be considered for admission to AP and Pre-AP courses.

Honors Courses

  • Honors courses are designed to equip all middle school and high school students with the skills, habits of mind, and knowledge that they need to succeed in college or career.

    • Honors courses emphasize skill development in the following areas: Critical Reading,Writing, Analysis and Evaluation, and Independent Learning.

    • Honors courses begin in middle school where all core courses (Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies) are offered to all learners.

    • Honors courses are offered at Coppell High School, Coppell High School Ninth Grade Campus, and New Tech High @ Coppell as well.  Learners may also choose to participate in Advanced Placement (AP) courses at all three of those campuses.  Coppell High School offers International Baccalaureate (IB) courses and New Tech High @ Coppell designs learning experiences almost exclusively through a Project-Based Learning (PBL) lens.

Home-Schooled Students

  • Home-Schooled students eligible to attend school in the Coppell Independent School District can participate in the administration of the PSAT/NMSQT or an advanced placement test offered by the district.
