Coppell ISD Board Briefs are highlights of select items from the CISD Board of Trustees meetings.

2021-22 Planning

2021-2022 Planning and Summer Projects 
Superintendent Dr. Brad Hunt and Chief Operations Officer Dr. Greg Axelson shared an update on 2021-2022 Planning and Summer Projects. This update included information on how masks will be optional from June 1 to August, which the district can reevaluate as needed based on positive cases, that CISD buildings will be open to visitors and that CISD buildings are available for rental with 24 groups currently booked at various campuses.  Dr. Axelson also shared that safety protocols are in place for these summer groups. He also gave an update on summer cleaning protocols for Summer School and deep cleaning plans for schools, as well as shared an update on bus pass distribution. Dr Hunt and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction then shared an update on the Virtual Academy, as well as Summer School. 

CBAS

Community Based Accountability System (CBAS) 
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Angie Applegate shared an update on the Community Based Accountability System or CBAS.  This update included progress on the project since November, an update on the cohort CISD is in, the CISD CBAS website, elementary/middle school and leaner voice, feedback from CISD principals and administrators, the TASA txedfest conference, and shared data collection and communications plan to release the data in August 2021.  Dr. Applegate also shared the three priority pillars the district will report on, which are Student Learning and Progress, Professional Learning and Quality Staff, and Safety and Well-Being. Chief Operations Officer Dr. Greg Axelson gave an update about how the district plans to share data, as well the questions the district plans to answer and the data points and categories that will be shared as part of each of the three focus pillars, which will be part of the August 2021 CBAS report. 

Budget

2021-2022 Budget 
Chief FInancial Officer Diana Sircar shared an update on the 2021-2022 Budget, including budget assumptions, expenditure reductions, enrollment projections and revenue opportunities.  The first preliminary budget of $155,229,849 was shared, which has a $4.2 million deficit, compared to $7.3 million for last year. The May 10 budget is the first of three proposed budgets to be presented to the Board. Revisions to the proposed budget will be made for the June 7 and August 2 budget workshops.

Action Items

  • Trustees issued Certificates of Election to newly elected Board Members Nichole Bentley (Place 6) and Tracy Fisher (Place 7). 

  • The Board voted to postpone indefinitely the item — Discussion and possible action regarding 2021-2022 Planning and Summer Projects

  • The Board passed an Order Declaring Results of the May 1, 2021 Trustee General Election; and
