Coppell ISD Board Briefs are highlights of select items from the CISD Board of Trustees meetings.
Board Action and Consent Items Highlights
The Board approved locking the field and track at Coppell Middle School East on the weekends only due to recent misuse by the public, but will keep the fields open after school hours Monday through Friday when school is in session. Trustees asked to revisit the issue in a future meeting.
Trustees approved entering into a interlocal agreement with the City of Irving and Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD for the hiring of a school resource officer for Valley Ranch Elementary and Canyon Ranch Elementary.
The Board approved the purchase of eight (8) new 77 passenger buses and two (2) 54 passenger special education buses with lifts to be put into service for the 2019-20 school year.

The Board approved amending the Facility Use Agreement with Coppell Family YMCA.
Trustees discussed and considered all matters incident and related to:
Trustees approved adoption of revisions to Board Policy EIA (LOCAL): Academic Achievement - Grading/Progress Reports to Parents.
The Board also approved updates to Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Policy Update 112, affecting (LOCAL) policies:

ICCG (LOCAL): Local Revenue Sources - Ad Valorem Taxes (delete policy);
CCGA (LOCAL): Ad Valorem Taxes - Exemptions and Payments (add policy);
CH (LOCAL): Purchasing and Acquisition (replace policy);
CQ (LOCAL): Technology Resources (replace policy);
CV (LOCAL): Facilities Construction (replace policy);
DCB (LOCAL): Employment Practices - Term Contracts (replace policy);
DIA (LOCAL): Employee Welfare - Freedom from Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation (replace policy);
FMA (LOCAL): Student Activities - School-Sponsored Publications (replace policy);

District Highlights & Awards
Several recent CISD achievements were highlighted at the meeting, including:
Legislator Visits/Coppell Day at the Capitol;
Six CISD Destination Imagination Teams advancing to State Tournament with two heading to DI Globals; and
CISD Communications and Community Engagement Department winning 10 Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Awards.
During the Awards portion of the meeting:
Girls' State UIL Wrestling was recognized for being the 2019 UIL Class 6A State Runners Up;
Eight High School students were recognized for making UIL All-State Band; and
The district’s 31 National Merit Finalists were recognized.

Executive Director of Facilities and Special Projects Louis Macias presented a Bond Project Update.

Director of Community Engagement Tammy Taylor presented an update on the district’s Strategic Design process and progress.
Community Based Accountability System
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction Dr. Angie Applegate and Executive Director of Teaching & Learning Deana Dynis shared an update on CISD’s Community Based Accountability System.
Board of Trustees Discussion and Report Items
Board of Trustees President Tracy Fisher gave a Legislative Update; Board Secretary Leigh Walker gave an update on Leadership TASB; Trustee Thom Hulme gave an update on the District Education Improvement Council (DEIC); and Trustee Manish Sethi gave an update on the Coppell Education Foundation
