Awards
During the Awards portion of the meeting, the following students and staff were recognized:
Coppell High School Theatre’s fall production of the musical “Newsies” for winning three Schmidt and Jones High School Musical Theatre Awards — Best Ensemble, Best Choreography and CHS Junior Tiffany Mares-Camarena, who won Best Actress in a Minor Role for her part of “Les.”
Three Coppell ISD students, who were among the winners of the national 2020 Population Connection video contest, which drew submissions from more than 5,000 students in 35 countries and 46 U.S. states and territories. The Board recognized CHS Junior Sophia Greenberg, who won $1,000 and first place in the category “Ensuring Economic Opportunities” for her film “When We Help Women.” The Board also recognized CMS East 8th Graders Rishika Pillai and Ana Jesayen, who won $250 and 2nd place in the category “Sustaining Water Systems” for their film “Global Effects of Agricultural Pollution.”
Coppell High School Track Coach Karl Pointer, who was selected as the Texas Boys Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
COVID-19 Update/2020-2021 Planning
Superintendent Dr. Brad Hunt and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Angie Applegate, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services Kristen Streeter and Chief Operations Officer Dr. Greg Axelson shared an update on COVID-19 Planning and the 2020-2021 School Year. This included:
Sharing three draft/proposed plans for returning to school in August: Plan A — Possible Face to Face plan; Plan B — Possible Hybrid Model; and Plan C — Possible CISD Distance Learning.
Recommendations that the School Calendar for 2020-2021 remain as is with teachers returning on August 5, 2020, and the first day of school stays as Wednesday, August 12, 2020.
An update on UIL and summer workouts and the phased return of students to these athletic workouts.
Sharing of possible Child Nutrition operations for return to school.
Bus transportation details, including bus pass registration and bus cleanliness.
Custodial cleaning plans, disinfectant processes and new routines and routes.
Proposed 2020-2021 Budget
Chief Financial Officer Diana Sircar shared an update on the proposed 2020-2021 budget.
