Coppell Middle School North has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Middle School Principal STEM Award, which comes with a grant exceeding $7,000 to support its Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs. The award, part of a new initiative by the Region 10 Educational Service Center in partnership with Communities Foundation of Texas, Educate Texas, and local STEM professionals, celebrates schools demonstrating excellence in STEM education.
CMS North was recognized as a leader among suburban schools for its innovative approaches to STEM teaching and learning. The funds will be used to further enhance STEM opportunities for students, fostering creativity, problem-solving skills, and a passion for technology and science.
“We are incredibly proud of Coppell Middle School North for this well-deserved recognition,” said CISD Superintendent Dr. Brad Hunt. “This award is a testament to the hard work of our educators, students, and leadership in driving innovation and excellence in STEM education.”
CMS North Principal Chris Gollner said, “We are thrilled to receive this grant, which will help us continue to provide cutting-edge STEM experiences for our students. It is our goal to inspire future engineers, scientists, and innovators, and this funding will play a key role in achieving that goal.”
A recent example of STEM at CMS North is when 7th grade science students created Solar S’mores to learn about the three different types of thermal energy transfer — convection, conduction and radiation.
The Middle School Principal STEM Award aims to identify visionary school leaders who are elevating STEM education and preparing students for success in college and STEM-related careers. The winners were announced at the Region 10 Texas EcosySTEM Exchange event on Sept. 24.
