Dear Coppell ISD Community,

At tonight’s Special Board Meeting, CISD Trustees approved a resolution to move the elementary International Baccalaureate (IB) program to Wilson Elementary, consolidate the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program to Denton Creek Elementary and for Pre-K programs be leveled across the district. This action was taken as a result of the Board’s September 30 decision to consolidate Pinkerton Elementary.

As I have shared with our community in updates since February, CISD has been working to address our budget challenges due to increasing costs related to inflation, lack of adequate funding from the state, and declining student enrollment, particularly at the elementary level. School consolidation and program changes are necessary to improve building and program efficiency and achieve cost savings so that the district remains financially sound.

I know change can be hard for our community. I truly believe that by focusing on taking care of our students, teachers, and families, we will navigate this transition smoothly by working together. The next steps include developing transition plans for staff, students, and their families, as well as adjusting district attendance boundaries to reflect these changes.

We are also planning special events to honor Pinkerton Elementary and celebrate its long and storied history as part of CISD.

The presentation from tonight’s Special Board Meeting is available at https://5il.co/2zlv3 and video of the meeting should be available first thing in the morning at www.coppellisd.com/o/cisd/page/board-meeting-video.

Thank you for your support and commitment to our district during this time. Together, we will ensure a successful transition for our students and staff.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brad Hunt

Superintendent
