Physical Education (PE) and Health

During the past Texas Legislative session, Senate Bill 530 was passed requiring fitness testing for all students in grades 3 -12. The Texas Education Agency recently selected the Fitnessgram developed by Dr. Kenneth Cooper as the assessment instrument for Texas school children.

The Fitnessgram measures three components of physical fitness: Aerobic Capacity, Body Composition, and Muscular Strength, Endurance and Flexibility. Aerobic Capacity will be measured by a paced run, mile run, or walk test; Body Composition will be measured as Body Mass Index which is a ratio of height and weight; and Muscular Strength/Endurance/Flexibility will include tests which assess abdominal strength, trunk extensor strength/flexibility, upper body strength and back flexibility. Coppell ISD Physical Education/Athletic staff will be administering the fitness test and results will be made available to parents. Our goal is to make this information available on the parent portal. For further information on the test instrument please go to Fitnessgram Website. The CISD Physical Educators appreciate your support and patience as they strive to develop "healthy active achievers" in CISD.
