Over the next few weeks, Coppell ISD will be spotlighting our elementary schools and the engaged learning that takes place at each campus. Elementary school tour videos and at a glance school profiles are available at www.coppellisd.com/o/cisd/page/campus-tours.
On Jan. 30, Lakeside Elementary’s 2nd graders showcased their creativity and problem-solving skills during their grade-level STEAM Night, an engaging evening filled with hands-on activities led by Lakeside STEAM teacher Meghan Hader. This event, which took place alongside the second grade winter music performance, highlighted major STEAM concepts such as teamwork, creativity and engineering. In preparation for the event, second graders worked together on exciting challenges like building sleds for friction races, designing shuffleboard pucks and creating snowflakes inspired by art lessons. Leading up to the event, students practiced collaborating with partners, explored engineering principles in storytelling and even learned how to play hockey in PE to connect movement with design thinking. To give families an inside look at their learning journey, second grade students captured photos and videos during their STEAM classes, which were compiled into a special video available here. Lakeside has STEAM nights in conjunction with grade-level music performances to allow its families to experience STEAM first-hand.
