The Senior Scholars program is an extended special dual credit program designed for senior students at Coppell High School who want an enriching and immersive early college experience. All classes will be held at one of the North Lake College campuses. The only exception is for students who want to return to the high school to participate in an extra-curricular activity.

Structured for students who have satisfied most high school requirements, the purpose of the program is to give students an opportunity to attain college credit in a college environment while completing their high school career. Senior Scholars will also have an option to earn college credit while exploring employment opportunities.

Application for participation in the Senior Scholars program must be made during course registration in the spring of a student's junior year in high school. Students must then be prepared to make a commitment to the program for their entire senior year.

A Senior Scholar Candidate is...

• Self-Motivated - A student who is able to approach the learning environment with energy while self-regulating efficient study habits of academic success.

• Organized - A student who is able to manage the responsibilities of a challenging learning environment and to create sufficient study time for academic success.

• Self-Disciplined - A student who is able to actively balance an increase in personal freedom with an increase in academic responsibilities.

• An Independent Worker - A student who is able to exercise initiative, relies on intrinsic motivation, and is able to produce course work autonomously.

• A Problem-Solver - A student who is able to work with adults or independently to resolve issues.

Students must have their own transportation.

Three Senior Scholars Options are Available:

In a combination of high school and college classes, students must be in attendance for four hours per day.

Option 1

• At least 12 Hours of Dual Credit Enrollment per semester (Students must take 2 North Lake classes per day)

• Plus Senior Leadership Corps (This class will be offered daily at North Lake for high school credit only and taught by a CISD employee.)

• Plus Extra-Curricular Participation (Students will be enrolled in an extra-curricular course at high school. Daily attendance will be required.)

Option 2

• At least 12 Hours of Dual Credit Enrollment per semester (Students must take 2 classes per day.)

• Plus Marketing Dynamics (This class will meet daily and will require coursework combined with part time employment.)

Option 3

• 15 Hours of Dual Credit Enrollment per semester (Students must take 3 North Lake classes on MWF and 2 North Lake classes on TTH.)

• Plus Senior Leadership Corps (This class will be offered daily at North Lake for high school credit only and taught by a CISD employee.)


How do I apply for admission?

• In order to participate in the Senior Scholars Program, students must meet all North Lake College entrance requirements.

• Students must pick up an application from high school counselors.

• Students must return the application to North Lake College.

• Students must meet admissions testing requirements. You may use SAT or ACT scores or may be exempt due to your exit TAKS scores. If this is not the case, you must take the Accuplacer.

What about registration?

• Students must register at North Lake College as well as CHS.

• For CHS, students must complete and return course selection worksheets as well as meet with their high school counselor to finalize course selections.

• For North Lake College, students must complete the schedule planning form and visit the Dual Credit Office in Building A, room A428, on the main North Lake College campus.

• Registration at North Lake College begins in June.

Student must submit a copy of their North Lake College transcript to their high school counselor at the end of each semester.
