On Saturday, February 18th, Turning Point learners partnered with other DFW area schools by participating in the YMCA Model UN Regional Summit at TWU Dallas. Learners took on the role of delegates from different nations, explored international issues, and proposed solutions. This was the culminating activity in a three week unit where learners delved into issues to find solutions to the economic impact and basic rights of refugees while taking the perspectives of the foreign nations of Lybia, Namibia, Chile and the Czech Republic.
During the all day event, learners participated in debate, practiced parliamentary procedures, drafted resolutions to current refugee issues around the globe, and collaborated with teens across the metroplex. Victory Place @ Coppell learner, Mya G. Huff, was mentioned as a recognized delegate during the closing ceremonies for her contributions to the day’s dialogue.
