Each year as a part of New Tech Gives Back, New Tech High @ Coppell sponsors a learner chosen charity. During the first week of school the senior class is split into groups of 4-5 and asked to choose an organization that they are passionate about. These presentations are eventually narrowed down to the top five. The five groups present to the entire senior class and the class decides which one they would like to sponsor for the year. This is a huge honor and the seniors feel lucky to have such a big role in New Tech’s chosen philanthropy.
This year group members Claire Halpin, Sierra Armstrong, Matthew Blizzard, and Zijian Huang chose to represent Stand for the Silent. This non-profit organization was founded by the community of a boy named Ty Smalley, whom committed suicide at the age of 11 because of a bully. The parents of Ty Smalley go around the world and give assemblies on the harms and effects of bullying. The New Tech learners have a goal of raising $5,000 for their organization and plan to have a Stand for the Silent fundraising walk in the upcoming months.
